Yes you did. Sorry I missed it.

I guess after all the conjecture that it would be Zubov or Smith, I think the kid deserves his own thread.
Scrambllllle
Half surprised it was Shannon called up. On one hand he has NHL experience and is lighting it up down there, on the other hand Zubov seems to be the next big thing to hit Ottawa

Could this an "exibition game" preparing for a trade? Imo Zubov has been better and does deserve the first shot. On the other hand, maybe they just see something in Shannon that the Sens need right now...
sensrebel
im not surprised, everyone knows Murray hates Russians.
vicktoro
yea I am starting to think that Murray has it out for the Russians to. How many times is Zubov gonna let himself be passed over before
he says trade me or else. I can't imagine him being in Ottawa at all after his contract expires with them the end of next year.

Volchenkov?

Sens are in a rut, Shannon has NHL experience and can step in more easily. Not too mention Bingo has played a lot this week and Shannon might be better conditioned and can handle it better.

I don't think this says anything about Zubov or Smith
sensrebel
Im starting to loose patience for Murray
vicktoro
i know is murray a g.m. or a coach? How many G.M.'s take over the coaching position themselves half way through the season. Let the
coaches coach and the players play. I can't beleive he called up Shannon over Zubov.
Scrambllllle
Murray is one of the top 5 winningest coaches of all time I believe. But he has also had many stints as GM
IjazBMW
If tonights game goes to Shoot out, I want Shannon to get a chance to do his spin o ramma.. tongue.gif That would be sweeeet
Corbechev
Zubov will get his chance, I still think the changes Murray has made are good ones. The team just needs to learn how to play again..

I notice that at least once per game the Senators end up running around chasing after the puck, it is rather silly, but nothing seems to go right for them, sometimes it results in a goal against, like Higgins' second goal last night, or when we were on the powerplay...

We cant seem to do that to other teams.
vicktoro
Zubov scored another goal last nite even strength and had another assist to add to his team leading point total.
Maybe he was just to important for the Bsens to be without against a first place team in their division...I think he
and Smith will be on the big club soon. Maybe after Foligno's stint with the first line tonite ohmy.gif
common SENS
I don't think murray hates russians. i just think he prefers players like canadian players because they grew up here wishing to win a stanley cup and stuff like that whereas russians tend to be more the kind of players that are just out for more superficial things like the fame, and money. i guess more the money since fame doesn't really come with hockey for many teams.

lots of factors apply to calling up a player. the role he is expected to play, the position, his strengths and weaknesses. it's not like calling up a goalie.

coaches become GMs probably because they speak to the team owner, and the team owner notices that they make much more sense than the other guy, and that he'd be better off with his coach being the GM. so the owner gives the GM the boot and hires his head coach for the position.

you're talking of calling up one guy over another, and your supporting information i think is just goals scored, or stats. but there's more to figure out than that. plus you need to take into account players' weakness. because sometimes one thing will work well in the ahl, but against nhl defense, against bigger and stronger guys, it might not work so well.

I agree. although i think our roster is not the greatest, i still like what murray has done, but i don't really know what his other options would have been. i think everything was just really expensive, and given that, we got some good character guys.

what we're missing i really think is secod\ndary scoring and a puck moving defenseman.

i totally agree, we can't get the other team running around in their own zone. i think that can be attributed to 2 things. one, the other team is just really poised and sound defensively. something we need to work on. two, our puck movement is really quite bad. our passing game is not so hot. tape to tape passes? not that many, and that matters alot because it takes away your momentum on a rush. once we're in a zone we have trouble also our passing is ok aroudn the perimeter like on Power plays, but when it comes to activating plays we are not doing so hot. it's like our timing is off, and that takes 2 players, the receiver to be in the right place at the right time, because the window of opportunity is so small, and the passer to pass at the right speed to arrive at the receiver at the right time.

offensively i think those are two of the greatest weakness of vermette and fisher. maybe it's just a chemistry thing who knows. i heard on this board foligno would be on the top line, i guess with spezza and heatly. that's a good thing to try i find. we need poise and passing game i think right now. and continued effort and violence.
sensrebel
maybe if Zubov gets a fake passport that says he was born and bread in Ottawa Murray will call him up. Everyone knows murray loves his home town boys. rolleyes.gif
Doc
It's official, Shannon will be playing alongside Spezza and Heatley. He probably will be on the second PP unit too.

It will be interesting to see how his speed compliments that line.

Heater and Spezz will dwarf him, lol. Should be fun to watch. The kid has great speed and hands, but his downfall is his size.

EDIT:

-Projected lines-

Forwards:
Heatley - Spezza - Shannon
Winchester - Fisher - Alfredsson
Vermette - Kelly - Donovan
Foligno - McAmmond - Neil

Defence:
Phillips - Volchenkov
Picard - Kuba
Smith - Schubert
Richardson

Goaltender:

Murray may not hate them, but you sure don't seem to like them. Maybe I'm spoiled since I grew up watching the Russian Five on the Wings, but I can't wrap my brain around the whole attitude that Russians don't care about winning or being loyal.... etc etc. Datsyuk is Russian, and you can bet that he cares about winning, that he's loyal and a team player, and a hard worker. From what I've read here, Zubov sounds like a hard worker himself.

In any case, as others have said, I'm sure that Murray is a professional and has good reason to bring Shannon up to the big club. Good luck on the next game Shannon!

I don't dislike russian players, there are lots of good russian players that play with passion, dtsyuk, ovechkin, malkin, and a whole bunch more. but i think murray once said he preferred canadian players because they grew up wanting the stanley cup. so percentage wise canadian players are more dependable for wanting to win. and that somehow got translated into somebody saying on here that everybody knows murray hates russians.

anyways, now that shannon took an elbow to the head and got all shook up, we might see zubov in the game anyways.

do you have any way of knowing that? any evidence to substantiate such a claim?

i really don't think murray cares where people on his team are from. only on winning games. and he'll put whoever on the ice he thinks will best serve that purpose.
dmarc031
so what happens now with shannon gone with an elbow to the head.... does zubov get called up or does schubert play foward and richardson defence?
Hockey_Hart
That's a shame to hear that Shannon got hit in the head. Hopefully he's ok. And common_Sens..thanks for clarifying smile.gif

Now I really want Zubov to get called up and see why everyone was against Shannon being called up. I really hope he's ok cause he didnt look half bad out there last night

Agreed with that. Murray has a disgusting love for Ottawa born players.
